As a Maui photographer of several years, I’ve noted a growing number of couples opting for Maui engagement pictures while visiting Maui’s breathtaking natural beauty. Recently I had the pleasure of meeting a couple from Washington who booked their engagement session with Maui Photography by Jen. After they saw the results of our photo session, they booked me for their Wedding Photography in Maui during the month of October. While it seems rather obvious to choose one photographer for both, why would their doing so be worthy of mentioning? Their reason for not booking me for both at first were really wise and worthy of noting, as they appreciate the immense impact a photographer has in preserving cherished wedding memories. Appreciating the value of having the right photographer, they chose to do a test run with various Maui Wedding Photographers on their “potential candidates” list. 

Using an engagement session to narrow down and determine who to use as their wedding photographer gave them the ability to know for a certainty who the right choice for them was. Of course I didn’t know any of this until after they booked me for the wedding, and that’s when they told me that their Maui Photography by Jen was their best session, and the pictures were better than what they hoped for!
They noted that my philosophy of making a session fun is what they really loved. I believe that fun sessions are where great shots come from. Photography is more than pictures, it’s about understanding and appreciating the chemistry of love, the dynamics of emotion, and getting the heart involved. Balancing artistry and lightheartedness with capturing the beauty of love in Maui defines the amateur from the professional photographer, as professionals make the difficulty look easy.
Having fun in a photo session allows a couples chemistry blossom, and when their chemistry is combined with a working photojournalism chemistry, that’s what defines the posed shots from the WOW shot!
