Today’s Maui visitors come for many reasons; family vacations are a top reason. As a Maui photographer I see a growing number of couples opt to have engagement pictures while in Maui as they enjoy Maui’s breathtaking natural beauty. Recently one such couple I had the chance to capture is Nichole & Patrick, a couple who while both in college, visited Maui with their family who were on vacation.
Choosing Maui Photography by Jen for the family's vacation photo session inspired Nicole & Patrick to choose me to capture their engagement pictures. Because of their location on the island, I chose my favorite destination in South Maui, Secret Beach, Makena for their session.  

At first like many couples they were nervous, but making a session fun is what I believe is the environment where great shots happen. Because though you can fake a smile, you can’t fake chemistry. Allowing ample time for a session enables a couple to become comfortable with each other in front of me, and once we establish a comfort level, then I as the photographer become part of the chemistry. And that’s the difference between posed shots and WOW! shots, the couples chemistry. As the photographer its my job to capture real emotion, and when that happens that I'm reminded again why I truly love what I do.
