As a professional Maui photographer I've had amazing opportunities to meet and photograph fascinating people and hear their wonderful love stories from around the world. While everyone's love story is unique and special, its not an everyday I meet those who are political refugees from a war torn country. Having grown up in the US I found their story compelling as I reflected on how they related that as children growing up in Vietnam in the early 70's, they with their families fled the unrest and war of Vietnam. As political refugees, both husband and wife's families were given political asylum in Canada. Though they grew up in different parts of Canada, eventually they met through a mutual friend decades later who introduced them. As Thao explained, "Phuong was very persistent, and quite charming". Eventually they fell in love, married, and now have two adorable sons. Its so beautiful as a Maui photographer to have had the opportunity to have spent time with the Ngo family, and in so doing be present to capture the love of this dear sweet family.
